Champagne Pascal Lejeune
Precise, terroir-driven Champagnes from a small family domaine on the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay.
Sandrine Lejeune’s family has been growing vines in Moussy since the early 1900s. She and Pascal took over the domaine in 1995, expanded the vineyard, and developed a range of cuvées that reflect the specific character of their terroir. Their son Thibaut, a fifth-generation grower, joined them in 2015.
The domaine farms 4.4 hectares across three villages on the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay — Moussy, Epernay, and Vinay — on the south-facing slopes of the left bank of the Marne. The terroir here is distinct from the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs: south-southeast exposures, a mix of clay, silt, and marne limestone, and a microclimate that gives the wines a particular freshness and texture.
Pascal was among the first producers in Champagne to plant cover crops between vine rows. Everything is hand-harvested, hand-pruned, and tended with daily attention. The estate is certified ‘Viticulture Durable en Champagne’ and ‘Haute Valeur Environnementale’.
The wines are organised into three tiers: village blends, single lieu-dit expressions, and a cépage series drawn from all three villages. Output is small and the wines are made with the kind of precision that only a small family domaine can sustain.
