Description
The wine
2012 was an exceptional vintage in Champagne — a warm, generous growing season producing wines of natural concentration and remarkable ageing potential. For a young producer who had taken over his grandfather’s domaine just a year earlier, the quality of the 2012 harvest was both a gift and a statement of what the domaine could produce. A blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir from vines averaging 40 years old across the three villages — Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Bisseuil, and Avenay Val d’Or. Extra Brut, 3g/l dosage — lower than the conventional style of the time, reflecting Antoine’s instinct toward precision and minimal intervention even in his earliest releases.
The domaine was still transitioning toward full organic farming in 2012 — that conversion would be completed by 2020. But the winemaking philosophy was already fully formed: old oak, indigenous yeasts, no additions, every bottle hand-labelled. The same approach that defines every wine he makes today.
