The wine
100% Chardonnay from Premier Cru vineyards in Avenay Val d’Or and Bisseuil, the two villages that form the southern end of his three-village holding. The cuvée name has since changed but the terroir and philosophy remain the same: old vines on chalky Premier Cru soils, spontaneous fermentation in old oak barrels, zero dosage, produced in very small quantities.
2018 was a warm and generous vintage across Champagne — producing Chardonnay of natural concentration and ripeness. For a single-vintage Blanc de Blancs from old vines on chalk, the warmth added depth and weight without sacrificing the mineral precision that Avenay Val d’Or consistently produces. The extended lees ageing in old oak gave the wine a textural richness and complexity that distinguishes Antoine’s approach from conventional Champagne production.
This vintage has been fully allocated and is no longer available. Another expression of this terroir is the 2022 Avenay Val d’Or Blanc de Blancs — from Les Plantels, vines planted 1964 — arriving with the late November 2026 allocation.
