Description
The wine
The 2014 was made during one of the most significant periods in the domaine’s recent history. Antoine had taken over from his grandfather Guy just a year earlier in 2013 and was in the process of converting the vineyards to organic farming — in 2014 approximately 40% of the vines were farmed organically, with the full conversion to 100% organic and biodynamic not completed until 2020.
For a wine that predates the domaine’s full organic conversion, the 2014 is a document of transition — the same approach in the cellar that defines every Antoine Bouvet wine, old oak fermentation, indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention — applied to vineyards that were still in the process of becoming what they are now. 2014 was a challenging vintage across Champagne, requiring careful selection in the vineyard and patience in the cellar. The resulting wines were precise and mineral — a leaner style than the warmer vintages that followed.
