Description

The wine

Domaine Buisson-Battault is based in Meursault, and this Puligny-Montrachet comes from one of its smallest parcels: 0.11 hectares in the lieu-dit Les Charmes. The vines were planted in 1985, on clay-limestone soil.

François Buisson, the fifth generation of his family, runs the domaine, which farms organically. He joined his father André in 1985 and took over in 1991. In 2005 the domaine moved into a restored building that housed a mustard factory from 1870 to 1939.

The grapes are hand-harvested and sorted if needed. The wine ferments with native yeasts and ages 12 months on lees in oak barrels, 20% new, followed by 6 months in tank. There is no bâtonnage.

For the same name in Meursault, see the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru ‘Les Charmes’. It is a different climat in a different village.

2022 vintage note

2022 was a warm, dry year in the Côte d’Or. Picking began in late August, and most fruit was in the cellar by September 20. The fruit was healthy, and old vines gave small yields. Low malic acid and high tartaric acid gave the white wines freshness.
