Description
Sourced from a single site, the south-facing Les Enceints plot in Pierreclos, where vines over 80 years old grow in Bathonian limestone-marl soil — a terroir known for producing high-quality Chardonnay but also showcasing the best of the golden-skinned Aligoté Doré.
Andrew Nielsen handles it with the same precision he brings to everything else in the range — basket press, native fermentation, lees ageing in old oak and concrete. No shortcuts, no additives. The result is Aligoté of real precision and character — lemony, zesty, racy acidity wrapped in a silky texture.
Eric Asimov featured the Du Grappin Aligoté in The New York Times, writing that it “demonstrates how pleasing and refreshing the grape can be” — a wine equally at home with a bowl of chips or a plate of shellfish. That assessment holds across every vintage.
Tasting notes
Lemon zest, green apple, white flowers, chalky mineral tension. The palate is crisp and precise with a saline, electric finish. More serious than most Aligoté at this price point. Drink now through 2028.
Service: 10–12°C. Oysters, steamed mussels, goat cheese, charcuterie. A natural aperitif.
Vintage note
2024 was a demanding vintage requiring careful work in the vineyard — wet conditions and disease pressure across Burgundy. For old-vine Aligoté in a well-drained limestone-marl site, the natural acidity of the grape is an asset in a fresh vintage.
Andrew and Emma Nielsen founded Le Grappin in 2011. They source from the same organically farmed single parcels every year, work without additions, and bottle everything by hand. Named one of The 10 Best Unsung Burgundy Producers by Wine-Searcher.
