Old vine Burgundy and Champagne from producers across the Amitié list. Buisson-Battault farms Meursault vines planted as early as 1927 and 1932. Hélène Charbaut’s La Pirouette comes from a single plot in Bisseuil planted in 1960. Antoine Bouvet’s Les Plantels in Avenay Val d’Or were planted in 1964. Mark Haisma’s Gevrey-Chambertin Fonteny comes from vines averaging 60 years old. Age brings concentration, depth, and the kind of site specificity that younger vines rarely achieve.

A significant number of the wines on the Amitié list come from vines planted before 1970 — some considerably older. Rather than labelling wines “vieilles vignes” as a marketing term, we note the specific planting date wherever we know it.
