Description
The wine
Chambolle-Musigny is where the Côte de Nuits transitions from power to elegance. The village produces Pinot Noir of extraordinary aromatic precision — cherry, violet, a mineral delicacy that distinguishes Chambolle from the more structured wines of Gevrey to the north and the richer styles of Vosne-Romanée to the south. The two Grand Crus — Musigny and Bonnes-Mares — sit at opposite ends of the village and define its range: Musigny ethereal and perfumed, Bonnes-Mares more structured and age-worthy.
Mark Haisma sources from two village parcels. One sits adjacent to Les Amoureuses — arguably the finest Premier Cru in Chambolle, positioned directly below Musigny and consistently producing wine of near-Grand Cru character. The proximity to Les Amoureuses is not incidental — it shapes the aromatic lift and precision of this village wine in ways that a parcel further down the slope would not.
The approach is the same as across the entire Haisma range: careful sorting, gentle fermentation in concrete, very little intervention once the ferment begins, 12 months in old oak. Brightness and aromatic purity throughout. No new wood. Bottled to preserve the floral, precise character that this corner of Chambolle produces.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby. Cherry, violet, raspberry, and rose petal on the nose — the characteristic aromatic lift of Chambolle-Musigny from a well-sited village parcel. The palate is elegant and focused with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long mineral finish. More perfumed and more delicate than the Les Chaffots from Morey — a wine that rewards attention rather than demanding it. Approachable now and at its best over the next eight years. Drink now through 2032.
Service: 16°C. Duck breast, roast chicken, salmon, aged soft cheeses. A wine that works with lighter dishes than most Côte de Nuits reds.
2022 vintage note
2022 was a warm, generous vintage across Chambolle-Musigny — excellent growing conditions producing wines of natural ripeness and good aromatic expression. For a village parcel adjacent to Les Amoureuses, the vintage adds fruit weight without sacrificing the floral precision that defines this part of the village. Approachable from release — drink now through 2032.
