Millésime — vintage — refers to Champagne made from a single year’s harvest rather than a blend of multiple years. Millésime Champagne is produced only in years the grower considers exceptional — typically representing a small fraction of total production. Because it is not blended with reserve wines from other years, a millésime expresses the specific character of that particular harvest more directly and completely than a non-vintage wine. Extended lees ageing is standard — the vintage character deepens over time in contact with the lees.
