Description

The wine

Le Terroir is the wine that brings all three of Adrien Renoir’s Grand Cru Verzy parcels together — Les Montants, Les Épinettes, and Les Vignes Goisses — each a massale selection planting from the 1960s and early 1970s on the chalk-rich slopes of the Montagne de Reims. The blend varies by vintage depending on what each parcel produced, but the philosophy is consistent: barrel fermentation, reserve wines aged in old oak foudre, zero dosage, no added yeasts.

The Wine Advocate awarded 94 points — calling it “long and penetrating, a beautifully balanced Champagne from this promising emerging talent.” At $84 it is the most accessible Grand Cru Verzy grower Champagne on the Amitié list and the natural starting point before exploring the single-parcel cuvées above it.

Adrien Renoir farms four hectares in Grand Cru Verzy on the Montagne de Reims — three specific lieu-dits of massale selection vines planted between 1961 and 1971. He took over from his father Vincent in 2014 and converted the domaine to organic certification by 2020. Everything is fermented and aged in barrel — old oak barriques and large oak foudres for the reserve wines.
